Outlook: A pair of senior linemen look to help the Purple Eagles get back on track. The 6-5, 298-pound Steven Stauss has been an all-league player since he was a sophomore. Jon Trembly (6-1, 250) can not only move people, he’s got an 99 GPA taking AP classes. “To have those two kids playing next to each other the past three years has been an absolute blessing,” said Osburn. “I can coach 20 more years and not have two more kids like them.” Sophomore SE/FS Trey Hart averaged 20 yards per catch as a freshman and was named the team’s MVP on offense. Senior Ed Wolfe moves from TE to TB. Battling for QB is sophomore Kyle Smith and John Warne. Junior WR/CB Desmond Blackmon will also return punts and kickoffs. JVs were 8-1.

Outlook: Beckman said the core of his team includes senior RB Juwan Baker, WR Tadriek Johnson, FB/LB Brian Posner and LB Jon Yang. “Those are the four guys who had pretty good offseasons and worked really hard in the weightroom and we’re expecting big things out of them,” said Beckman. The Tigers are looking to fill the void following the graduation of three-year starting quarterback Justin Twarog (John Carroll). Four different players are vying for the spot. “That will be one of the big preseason competitions,” he said. “We’re going to run the ball a little bit more than in the past.”

Protecting Haight will be a couple of experienced linemen: seniors Tim Flint returns at center and will play LB and James Brady will start on both sides of the line. Other seniors who will dictate the team’s success are: Tyler Childs, Amos Andrews and Dareon Woods. The team will play two games at Roy-Hart and one a Barker.

Bennett is deep enough that McDuffie said he expects to have fewer two-way players. Three-year starter Willie Adams will be the only senior on the line. The line will also include eighth-grader Jeremiah Sanders, who is 6-2, 303-pounds. Eric Thomas returns at quarterback. Look for St. Mary’s transfer, Tryree Brown, at WR/DB. RBs Isiah McDuffie and Alexander Lofton will be explosive.

Roderick Morrow, who recorded over 100 tackles last year, joins Perry as another key two-way starter on the line. WR/DB Jamar Holmes will be a team captain. He had over 1,000 all-purpose yards last year. “We have a balanced attack,” said Kolb. “We don’t have one stud running back that gets 1,000-2,000 yards, we spread it out amongst five guys who are going to get 300-500 yards roughly.” Among the 14 returning starters, eight were sophomores a year ago. Burgard was one student above the cutoff to be a Class C team.

The Lancers are deep with fast wide receivers. WR Zak Nalbone looks to have another big year.

Senior captain John Hewitt got some time last season at QB and threw for 100 yards against Cheektowaga. The Warriors’ strength will be their lines with Mike Cammarano, Ron Ponholzer, Austin Oquendo and Amarri Brown. A young player to watch is freshman RB Austin Reamsnyder.

Senior LB/RB Kyle Barna had over 1,000 all-purpose yards and recorded 89 tackles. He’s a four-year varsity player. Three of the five Lyndonville players will start including WR/DB Ty Rhovat, OL/LB Brandon Schoolcraft and LB Tom Follman, up from the JV and only a sophomore. S/RB Dan Brown, who only played half of last season, stands 6-5 and runs with a lot of power. The Mustangs’ first three games are home.
