Olean, Randolph and Portville took boys’ division titles in the Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Track and Field Championships, which were held at Olean Middle School on Saturday. The girls’ winners were Southwestern, Randolph and Franklinville.
Olean scored points in all but two events, piling up 162 points in boys Division I to finish ahead of Dunkirk. The Randolph boys were even more dominant in registering 173 points to finish ahead of Allegany-Limestone in Division II. In Division III, Portville beat out Maple Grove, 155-131.
On the girls’ side, Southwestern finished ahead of Fredonia, 139-97. Randolph had points in each of the 18 events to top Salamanca, 160-124. Franklinville won the closest competition of the day, as the Panthers edged Maple Grove, 128-124.
There were three double winners. Josh Juenemann of Cattaraugus-Little Valley took the boys 100 meters (11.26) and 200 meters (23.48). Brittany Feldman of Southwestern captured the 400 meters in the girls race (59.26, the only person in the field to break one minute) and 200 meters (26.78). Mckenna Maycock of Randolph won the 100-meter hurdles (15.85) and 400-meter hurdles (1:04.89).
Rowing: The Canisius freshman eight won a silver medal at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America’s national championships, which wrapped up on Saturday in Camden, N.J. New Trier, Ill., finished about 3½ seconds ahead of the Crusaders.
Canisius’ varsity eight finished fifth overall. Nardin, St. Joe’s and Nichols also participated in the competition.
Elsewhere, the West Side Rowing Club will continue its centennial celebration by hosting the 29th annual Fontana All-High City Rowing Championships on Monday.
Crews from the WSRC’s junior program, City Honors, Holy Angels, Nardin, Nichols, St. Joe’s, Bishop Timon-St. Jude, Buffalo Seminary, Canisius and the WNY Maritime Charter School will take part in 20 events on the Black Rock Canal.
Racing begins at 9 a.m. and is scheduled to run to 2 p.m.
The competition is named for Charles Fontana, a long-time coach and board member of the rowing club.
