Class C Far West Regionals: Middle Early College vs. Clyde-Savannah

When: 1:45 today at Buffalo State Sports Arena.

Admission: $6 (for Class D-C-B tripleheader).

New York State Sportswriters Association Class C ranking: 1. Clyde-Savannah; 8. Middle Early College.

How they got here: Middle Early College beat Randolph, 50-47, in the Section VI final; Clyde-Savannah beat Perry, 51-40, in the Section V final.

Starters and key reserves: 6-4 sr. Bri’an Brown, 5-10 sr. Kevin Briggs, 5-6 so. Joseph Staton, 6-1 sr. Tarron Scott, 6-7 sr. Devon Singleton; 6-0 sr. Brandon Jefferson, 6-2 sr. Elijah Mingo, 6-0 sr. Isaiah Dickinson.

Court vision: The Kats are underdogs according to the state rankings.

But they have played a very tough schedule and are champions of the Buffalo Public Schools’ Yale Cup (over larger schools McKinley and East High) thanks to unselfish offense, playmaking by Brown and Briggs and tenacious defense in both zone and man packages.

Who’s got next: The winner advances to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association final four at the Glens Falls Civic Center. It will play in the semifinals at 1:30 p.m. next Friday against Section VIII (Nassau County, L.I.) champion and private school Friends Academy, which won a downstate regional Friday against Section I (Westchester County area) champion Haldane, 71-49.
