Lancaster and Orchard Park both took care of business rather easily Thursday to set up the Section VI Class AA championship showdown Saturday.

Lancaster defeated Williamsville North, 10-2, on the strength of a JD Andreesen complete game two-hitter. Andreesen also hit a grand slam and ended the day with six RBIs total. Ryan Spekl also added a two-run homer in the first inning.

The Quakers have defeated Lancaster twice this season – 7-4 and 9-8. Thus, Lancaster coach Mark Dalfonso is encouraging his players to focus on themselves.

“(Orchard Park) is an excellent team,” Dalfonso said. “They’re coached well and play strong defense. We have to worry about ourselves and play a good defensive game.”

For the second year in a row, Williamsville South ended Hamburg’s playoff run in a rout. Thursday, the Billies defeated the Bulldogs 8-1 in Section VI Class A-1 semifinal action.

Senior Steve Zaprowski earned the win with a three-hit shutout. He also added a two hits and two RBI’s.

Williamsville South will meet Starpoint in the final round. The Spartans defeated Grand Island 8-3 Thursday on the strength of a two-hit, three-RBI effort by Ben Walters.

Elsewhere, fourth-seeded Springville earned an upset win, 4-2, over top-seeded Pioneer in the Section VI Class A-2 semifinals Thursday.

Starting pitcher Whyatt Sidiga went the distance, striking out 10 with two earned runs.

Albion will join Springville in the Section VI Class A-2 championship game after defeating Cheektowaga 3-2 Thursday.

“It’s a possible revenge game for us,” Albion coach Bruce Blanchard said. “They beat us in the playoffs last year.”

In Class B-1, Olean defeated City Honors 12-4 to advance to the final at 4 p.m. Saturday. The Huskies will take on Fredonia, who defeated Medina, 3-2, to earn a spot in the final game.

In Class B-2, Gowanda and Cleveland Hill both won to set up a championship matchup Saturday.

In Class D action, Brocton sophomore Steve Krystofiak led his team to a 3-2 win over Pine Valley with a one-hit, 11-strikeout complete game. Brocton will take on North Collins in the final Saturday.
