Williamsville North’s David Berkun and Ben Reichert, Grand Island’s Aaron Schauger and Randolph’s Nolan Ditcher will lead Section VI’s roster in the NYSPHSAA Boys Golf State Championship, which runs Sunday and Monday at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Ithaca.
Berkun, Reichert and Ditcher are making their second trip to the state finals, while Schauger is the Section VI champion. The team also includes Mark Joslin of Hamburg, Joe Conti of Fredonia, Mark Lesinski of Williamsville North, Wil Lockwood of Maple Grove and Danny Weimer of Silver Creek.
The golfers will engage in a practice round Saturday.Nick Pullo and Cody McGregor helped Tonawanda win the Class B-1 baseball championship with a 5-3 victory over Springville. Pullo tossed a complete game while McGregor drove in two runs for the Warriors. Tonawanda will face Fredonia, the Class B-2 champion, in the overall Class B championship at Diethrick Park in Jamestown at 5 p.m. todayIn a late game Wednesday, Falconer captured the Class B-2 softball title by defeating Roy-Hart, 8-4.
Abby Courtney threw an eight hitter, striking our six with one walk. Roy-Hart’s Brianna Walker had two hits and an RBI.
Shannon Gunnell added a pair of doubles and two RBIs for Falconer, which advanced to the Class B final against Eden at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Sunshine Park in West Seneca.
