BROCKPORT – The postseason rides ended for both Pine Valley’s and Cattaraugus/Little Valley’s softball teams Friday night at Brockport State as the Section VI champions came up just short against their Rochester-area Section V counterparts in the Far West Regionals.
Pine Valley and V-Arkport scored all of the Class D game’s 11 runs in the first three innings with Arkport winning 6-5. The hosts broke a 5-5 tie on a perfectly executed bunt to drive in the go-ahead run.
PV hit the ball solidly, but made some defensive errors that resulted in five unearned runs for the hosts.
Jamie Wilcox hit a home run for Pine Valley, while Cassie Tingue belted a two-run double.
“It’s been a true pleasure to coach this group,” PV coach Danielle Arnone said. “They can’t keep their heads down.”
In Class C, Bolivar-Richburg beat Cattaraugus/Little Valley, 5-1, bolting to a 3-0 lead in the first and cruising into next Saturday’s state semifinals along with Arkport in South Glens Falls. Catt/LV finished 16-5.
“We set goals of winning sectionals (this season) and said anything after that would be a bonus,” said Catt/LV coach Heather Hyde. “They had a good run. … I’m pretty proud of them.”
